he was ill last night with pale yellow poo and a bit of a temp.

today he has just lain on the sofa and slept. about 10 mins ago he threw up literally everywhere. over the sofa (thank god its leather) up the walls, across the carpet. feel so helpless. have disinfected everywhere and cleaned him up. waiting for docs to call me back now.

How is he lissielou? What did the gp say?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2009 21:51

oh blimey - poor lad and poor you

midnightexpress · 16/02/2009 21:54

Poor sausage. Reminds me of the time ds1 threw up a whole bowl full of spinach pasta made with tiny alphabet pasta all over me and his entire bedroom. I was fishing tiny green h's and w's out of the floorboards for months.

Hope your ds is feeling better soon.

OracleInaCoracle · 17/02/2009 08:31

thank you all, gp says its a bug and just to keep him hydrated and let him sleep. he is much better today, had cereal for breakfast so fingers crossed!

My little girl has this, she seems fine in the day then has terrible tummy cramps at night with intermittent vomiting. Has been going on since friday, I was so worried I took her to the doctors on Sunday but was told it is viral infection and just to ride it out.

I always worry it is something more serious and I should be doing something more.

Hope your little boy feels better soon.

Racingsnake · 17/02/2009 10:13

DD much the same. May have stomach cramps - she can't tell me but screams at intervals. Intermittantly sick, mainly into towels she is wrapped in. Reassured to hear there is a lot of it about, so letting her sleep/grizzle.

Any tips apart from offering sips of drinks out of a bottle?

LOL little green m's and w's! How did you know which were which?

madamekoto · 17/02/2009 10:20

I was so worried as I thought it could be her appendix! I was so relieved when she was examined by the doctor and he said it was just a virus.

I coulnt understand how she can be so well in the day (jumping on trampoleen!) then racked with pain at night, but just nature of the bug I guess.

My dd hates taking medicine so I give it to her with a little cranberry juice, checked with doctor and this is fine. I also made some juice lollies and shaped ice cubes to make taking liquids more "fun." Its amazing what kids will swallow if its shaped like a dolphin!

I was also told to alternate ibuprofen with paracetemal and a hot water bottle seems to help a lot.

Racingsnake · 17/02/2009 19:14

DD is at the moment sitting up in bed sucking an ice lolly. Great idea!

OracleInaCoracle · 18/02/2009 08:29

how are the lo's now? dh now has it and has been throwing up all fecking night.

DD was fine all day yesterday, not 100% but eating a bit. She started to get tummy ache about 4, went to bed okay at 7.30 then woke at 9 with stomach cramps again! Eventually went back to sleep by 11, it is just so horrid seeing her in pain.

I just cannot understand this virus. She has had it since Friday, daytime okay then stomach cramps every night with temperature.

OracleInaCoracle · 18/02/2009 11:31

oh madame, have you seen gp about it? seems to have gone on for too long now!

OP posts:
madamekoto · 18/02/2009 11:49

I took her to a doctor on Sunday night, he examined her all over and told me it was a virus and could go on for a while. I was relieved it was not anything more serious but
this is just such an odd virus.

She is fine now, but it seems to kick in at night, most odd.

Racingsnake · 18/02/2009 14:00

My dd also has taken a turn for the worse. Ice lolly didn't stay down for long! Seems too sleepy today - she just doesn't wake up, so off to the doctor this afternoon. Bound to say 'It's just a virus', though.

OracleInaCoracle · 18/02/2009 14:03

its frustrating isnt it? dh is asleep atm

Let us know how you get on at the doctors Racingsnake, I am sure it will all be fine.

The doctor I saw actually said it was gastroenteritis, his exact words were "call it gastoenteritis if you will"

I am glad I took her as it has ruled out anything more serious.

Hope your dh feels better soon lissielou.

OracleInaCoracle · 18/02/2009 16:52

well, have disinfected entire house in vain attempt to stop myself catching it, but feeling a little queazy now...

I've got it - jyst working out how to get ds backfrom nurery. Bugger it sucks being single with no friends

Racingsnake · 18/02/2009 19:08

Dr said hopital tonight for dd id she doesn't drink more and stop being sick. The trouble is, the only way to get her to drink anything is by bribery with sweets. Which I am afraid will make her sick.

Fingers crossed.

If anyone is wondering, dr said coca cola makes good rehydration fluid for young children, shaken up to get rid of some of the bubbles and diluted a bit with water. Give a few sips every few minutes, rather than one large drink. Seven Up also good. (!)

Racingsnake · 18/02/2009 19:39

Very sympathetic waves to ipod.

OracleInaCoracle · 18/02/2009 19:41

oh the poor mite. hope she feels better soon. you too ipod!

For sugar free bribery I always buy some crappy £1 toys with bright colours etc, wrap them up and put them in a bag. When the kid does what you want, they get to pick a toy.

Good luck Racingsnake, really hope your little one has a better night.

Racingsnake · 18/02/2009 20:15

Good idea. Will make emergency bribery bag for future use. Although at one toy for a few sips, it could get pricy!

ipodtherforipoor · 18/02/2009 20:28

got to nursery on time - thanks for sympathetic waves!

madamekoto · 19/02/2009 09:36
