ds 12 weeks old has severe reflux and on meds and since he was born been v stuffy and did keep stopping breathing (this isnt as bad anymore) we saw paed last mon and meds were increased to the max and after having ph study, barium, sats and sleep study they are saying its 'jusy' the reflux causing it. diff milks notg helping although better on goat milk after paed advice. he sleeps propped up and have tried nose drops, humidifier, olbas etc but nothing really helps. when he wakes up he is sooo bunged up and snorts etc. it really interferes in his sleep but is better when awake. he also has an odd cough like a cat with a furball. any experiences?????????

Hi mad4, I'm sorry you still don't have the answer to it all...glad the stopping breathing has improved, though.

One thing they told me about dd when she was in hospital with RSV, was that she had particularly narrow nasal passages - which wasn't helping with her breathing when lying down. As your ds's lungs are ok, and they do'nt think he has larynx issues now, maybe its higher up??

He sounds like a baby with a post-nasal drip, like when they have a cold, so maybe...?

Reflux can do all that though, I know from experience, so fingers crossed for you that as that improves, so will the rest. Hang in there...

hi elibean! i do go on dont it!! the increased meds havnt helped him (breathing wise) and they dont seem to want to find out what it is. i havent yet come across anyone who has this JUST from reflux...

No, the nose snuffling part sounds different from reflux...though have to say, meds helped a bit with dd2's reflux but not totally, only time did that!

I bet, when he's older, it'll either get better (eg if its tiny nasal passages etc that play a part) or you'll find he has some ENT issues like adenoids/tonsils going on. They never seem to look into those with small babies, only over a year old (so I was told by ENT). Unless life-threatening, of course.

Sleep-threatening and mum's-peace-of-mind-threatening seem to not be priorities.......'course, the professionals aren't living with the issues, are they!

elibean are you about??

i did some research on enlarged adenoids and the symptoms are exactly the same as ds2.

im going to gp tomorrow morning. what if they say im over reacting?? Do i have rights to demand to see an ENT specialist? My paed cant see us for 7 weeks (she is a gastric one) i think she thinks that because she cant solve the problem she isnt bothered?
