8 month DD has really bad nappy rash - any ideas

DD is 8 months and has suddenly got really bad nappy rash over the course of the day - at the last change it started bleeding in one place.

She is a cheerful thing and not whinging about it but it looks so sore.

I have been putting sudocrem on at each nappy change, she's had a bath to make sure it's clean, and a couple of hours without a nappy altogether.

She's currently in a muslin with her cotton vest done up over the top (no nappy).

Any other suggestions? She's walking round the furniture and crawling at high speed so it's difficult (and slippery!) for her to go without anything at all downstairs.

Also could it be anything else - is there any infection she could have got that's making it worse? DS has had nappy rash a fair few times now but never this bad.

Thanks!

BTW, I remember ds first getting quite bad nappy rash at the same age - it's a difficult time because you're introducing different solid foods and what have you. Bound to react a bit.

choucroutegarnie - many thanks. He did have tonsillitis about the same time the rash started! I'm googling now......

Extract from this below, but there's loads of info 'out there' about this.

'The Department of Health warns against routine use of soy-based infant formulas because of the high content of phytoestrogens - compounds that mimic the action of the female hormone oestrogen.

It is feared this could pose a risk to the long-term reproductive health of infants, and some babies are allergic to both kinds of milk.'

Sorry just to be use, are we talking about Alpro Soya etc, not just infant soya powder?

nappyaddict · 27/01/2009 23:59

Go to the doc's tomorrow and ask for a swab. If it's not bacterial morhulin is fab.

Yes, all soya.

Just wanted to thank all those Metanium fans. Metanium and Timodene has really done the trick, that and a nappy free day
! Thanks again would highly recommned it to any one with DC with extream nappy rash.

Must have been thrush if Timodine sorted it. Glad she's better now.

Try cornflour paste (mixed with water) works like a charm. DD was on bepanthen, sudocrem, metanium, then steriods, even that didn't work. Once rash beter, mix cornflour with vaseline - much easier to apply. I've not used anything else since - that's 8 months ago!!! Good luck
