really bad cough in 2 year old - don't know what else I can do - and he needs to sleep

DS3 has had a really bad cough for a few days and hasn't slept more than a couple of hours at a time since Wednesday.

He has been diagnosed today with chicken pox so at least I know what the problem is now but he just can't get to sleep and, if he does, he wakes as soon as he is put down.

I have done the steamy bathroom thing (recommended by nurse I saw today), has had Benylin and Calpol and I have put a pillow under his mattress but nothing seems to help.

Help please

I'm afraid you need Medised - it's got a decongestant as well as a painkiller and it knocks them out.

Pharmacies sell it - for short term use only but it will get him the rest he needs to recover.

Medised is really wonderful - especially as it will stop the itching in addition to drying the cold up and helping him sleep.

The Karvol plug in diffusers are brilliant too

we've got that too - hasn't done the trick on previous evenings

Have you tried taking him to bed with you. That was the only way I could get my dd to sleep with chicken pox.

he is currently sleeping on DH in a rocking chair. We will probably swap over in a few hours - that's what we've done for the past few nights. Not sure if he would manage in bed wiht me - he's not normally very good at that and I get a bit worried he will be too hot.

God - I hate it when they are ill

Thanks anyway all of you
