his nursery has one confirmed case of measles in his class. just wondered if this was possible.

It is possible - the vaccine is not 100% effective.

yes, it is possible.,

i noticed a few little red spots on the top of his arm in bath yesterday, they were still there today, reading up on the symptoms, he has had the red eyes, cold and fever in the last few weeks (i thought was just cold) however he now seems fine and apparantly the rash normally starts on forehead. i think i'm just being paranoid!

they give the second dose of mmr because the first doesnt always work. i dont know how effective it is in terms of %s- perhaps you could look it up on nhs direct or something?

gemmummy, it's probably just that he has had a cold and now has a viral rash,. that's really really common in kids and far more likely than measles.

but, under the circumstances, if the rash is still there tomorrow, or has spread it might be worth seeing if you can see a GP

gemmummy · 23/01/2009 20:16

thanks for that, i'm sure it hasn't spread from yesterday and it's really localised on the top of one arm, as i said i'm being very PFB I think! Always get good advice on here though.

Two of mine have had it despite having the MMR-one had a very mild case, the other was actually very unwell.

There is quite a high failure rate after the first dose I think.
