is this cause for concern on its own? DD's nappies, the morning one in particular, have absolutely honked for the past few days. I've read that this can be a symptom of UTI, but DD seems in very rude health indeed.

DD's (5 Years) urine smells awful when she has UTIs and she has them regularly, can you get a sample for the gp to check?

thanks, Mrs. D. I naively assumed she would have other symptoms if she had an infection, but maybe not.

Does she drink alot of water?

mrsdisorganised · 21/01/2009 22:19

Depends on how bad the UTI is, my DD has rarely had any other symptoms.

paddingtonbore · 21/01/2009 22:20

no. despite my best efforts and lots of bribing tempting with juices/cordials as well as water, she doesn't drink much apart from her am and pm milk.

There's the problem I'm afraid. Milk is not rehydrating her enough, she needs to drink more water/fluid.
I taught ds to use a straw, this helped him. Just watch her like a hawk with it.

IME toddler urine does stink it's very amonia - absolutely vile and literally makes your eye water if you use washables!

I think I need a new thread on methods for getting a feisty toddler to drink
