chinese medicine and excema in 10 month old?

Hi - thanks for reading! My 10 month old is under the care of a skin specialist due to his excema - it's not terrible but bad enough that we've been referred. The steriods are doing the job which is great on the one hand but on the other hand to work I have to use them almost all the time. The health visitor mentioned to me that she thought chinese medicine was very good but I wanted some other views. Does anyone have any experience of this and what are the general thoughts.

Sorry but I wouldn't use Chinese Meds on myself let alon a LO. It is completely unregulatated and some of the potions can cause serious harm to kidney function.

My DS has severe ezcema, which wept almost constantly on certain parts of his body, from birth.

I cut out all dairy for him and my only other tip is MOISTURISE!!!!

From about 1 yr (when I changed GPs) every time I changed his nappy or got him dressed/undressed I smothered him in emolient, I mean everytime Sometimes 8 per day!

Steroids should only be used on flare ups and not as a daily treatment imho (and that of my GP too) and an emolient should be used for management - it may take a while to find the correct one, but you will find it.

My DS now has peachy soft skin, rarely has a flare and I hardly use anything on him now - not even a post bath emolient.

No, don't go down that route. As marmaduke said it is unregulated and some creams have been found to contain very potent steroids.

Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.

A lot of 'miracle, herbal creams' are often extremely strong steroids. Very potent steroids can be potentially harmful to your child.

ditto you have no idea whats in an unlicenced cream.

If its any consolation and acquaintance's DS has dreadful dreadful excema as a baby which was successfully treated adn at 2 he really doesn't have a mark on him.

I am completely with MarmadukeScarlet. Your HV should be ashamed of herself. Sympathy to you, though; it is horrid though my dd grew out of it by 2.5.

see a registered homeopath instead. much better regulation a bit more expensive around £35 for an initial consultation near me but worth it.
just another point-my son had eczema when younger switched to blinds and wooden flooring and did the trick. now we have moved temporarily to a carpeted house and has flared up again.

I found moving all soft toys OUT of the cot helped. And no fabric conditioner. And no dairy in my diet (when bf) or hers. And Aveeno cream.

Don't do it - my sister (a dr) was telling me the other day she can't believe the number of cases of renal failure she sees after people try Chinese remedies.
