My DS has a sore penis. What could be the causes?

He started complaining tonight just before bedtime. The end looks a little red & sore. I ran him a warm bath, which seemed to soothe it, but he now looks like he is in some discomfort when he walks. Does this sound like an infection?

PC, you can start ringing at 8am. Be persistant , even if its engaged, keep ringing. you will get through eventually. Try not to get the DR with a H as a surname.

I will phone tomorrow morning, PB, and I know the doctor you are meaning there!

I know other people have said this, but it could just be boys version of thrush, and would clear up with some canisten or similar. have 3 ds's and they have all had similar at one time or another, and have never had to have antibiotics. Hope he soon feels better

I have been to the doctors with him this morning. He wouldn't let the doctor pull it back because he was in so much discomfort, but you could see the end was very red. He has given me some antibiotics & cream for him.
Thanks for all the advice!

Pinkchampagne, keep an eye on that, my DS had that problem several times, he's now booked in for a circumcision, he's 12. Am a bit sad that I didn't push for a referral to see a specialist sooner TBH.

hope he's feeling better soon

DS had this when he was about 4. His foreskin was a little tight and urine was getting "trapped" behind it then getting infected.
Doc told him to make sure he pulled the foreskin back properly when weeing (showed him how - glad it was then and not now!!) and to do the same in the bath. This would stretch the foreskin very slowly over time and would stop it happening again. It worked a treat

We have this also, never had anti-b's. We gave a salt bath I think. Also like other posters hygiene around the area. Also only 100% cotton pants. Let the air get to the area and make sure its dry after washing.

He doesn't seem in as much discomfort now and can pull back the skin a little more. I can see there is some pus beneath the foreskin, so there is obviously an infection. Hopefully the ab's will clear it quickly.
He has worn lose cotton pants today.
