After two sleepless nights from constant coughing - tonight we're trying the Vicks on the feet!

Never heard of this - pls explain?! We have had exactly the dame problem though for three nights now, coughing for hours and then eventually being sick.We were recommended benylin children coughs and colds (green box) and despite me not having any faith in cough medicines, last night wasn't superb but much improved. Same again tonight, so hopefully..

Now we've tried most things for coughs but never this!!

I'd be interested if it works.

It worked for my DD the other week when she had a horrific cough that was keeping her up all night. I just put a dab of vicks on each foot and covered with socks. She went from coughing constantly to one cough once through the whole night. I am a big fan now

Why the feet?

I've covered DS2's chest with Vick's. He's still coughing.

I have heard many times from various sources that liberally covering the soles of the feet with Vicks (and wearing socks!) has a magical effect and stops the coughing - just like that! Have been a bit , but am now desperate and thinking about a hotel room just for me, as it's 2 dcs and dh with man flu - aargh!

Anyway, ds2 has been in bed for 1.5 hours, fully Vicks'd up, and so far, silence!!

I thin it may be to do with the fumes actually being very strong when on chest
also the very menthol of it can tickle a cough

vicks is for a stuffed nose not a cough

but hope it works

I have a fried who's father has a lot of respiritory problems and he was advised to do this on his feet and it worked. I think its something to do with your feet, circulation etc. It does work though and is supposed to help with sleep too!!!

Ds has got a plug in menthol thing in tonight. So im hoping that will help him sleep. were all out of vick's.

My youngest is 6 so sleepless nights are a hideous shock to me. I am a gibbering wreck and am prepared to believe it may be magic.

I used karvol ampules for ds when he had the coughing cold last month. Snipped the end of and dripped it all over the top of his pillow and some on a tissues on his radiator. The cough was triggered by a nasal drip though, not a chest infection, so it worked as his nose was unblocked. I also "steam" a teaspoon of vicks in the basin with boiling water while he takes a bath, keep the door closed.

Ds1, who has the most awful cough of all, has just gone up, also annointed.

Will report back tomorrow with results of my scientific survey.

Vapourisers are the BEST things for coughs.

well igoogled it cos i had never heard ofit did my lo's feet and put rest on my chest and it s just started to go warm and guess what lo has just turned over and stopped snoring[wet breathing from all his phlegm so fingers croseed it will work

so, did it work?

I have some ready and waiting to use on dd's feet tonight if it does Poor thing coughed so much she was sick twice last night. None of us got much sleep, apart from ds, so we need some help!
