She's rousable if poked but just goes back to sleep. She's had a tummy bug since Tues but it's relatively mild. She's had 3 bouts of diarrhoea this morning but nothing else. Has drunk lots of breastmilk, eaten virtually nothing. Should I worry/wake her? It's not like her, she hates sleep. She's 16 months.

If she has drunk breastmilk, she might just have a full tummy and can finally get some sleep. If she were not taking any fluids I would be concerned. Her body is telling her she needs to sleep, so regardless of whether she hates sleeping, she probably can't help it!
the body heals best when we are sleeping, so let her sleep. Put her where you can see her and have a break - you deserve it!

leave her. sleep restores wonderfully - and stops distress. just keep checking and feed lots when she wakes up.

main worry would be dehydration - look for sunken soft spot, dry membranes, too-tight skin. important to maintain fluid.

tartanchatterbox · 07/12/2008 14:59

If you are worried about dehydration, pinch the skin on the back of your hand and let go - seeing how quickly it takes for the skin to go back to normal. Then gently do the same for you sleeping child. If she is dehydrated, the return to normal will be very sluggish.
Phone nhs 24 or equivalent if you need reassurance. They are trained ot help you. Take an emergency appointment first thing on Monday at your local doctor's, explaining her age when you book.
my daughter had winter vomiting bug for 3 weeks, and we had so many calls to the doctors, we have had plenty of experience.

I am sure they will be happy if she is taking fluids.

xposts, sorry Thanks tcb. I'm not used to this, she's never like it even when ill. She has just woken up but is feeding again so may go back to sleep. I'll just keep an eye on her then
