Hi, we have noticed that on and off my daughter, who is two and a half, has really smelly privates. The thing is, they don't smell of wee and it smells....well....adult. I am not sure how to describe it but its a definite 'female' smell.... since she is the only little girl that I have ever had to change I have no idea whether its normal. Her dad has even noticed and asked the other day 'can she be ovulating ?' (and he was only semi joking). She is obviously bathed morning and night so its not that she's unclean. I am not sure what to do. Its not all the time either Any help appreciated ! x

Can only say that DD 2.9 hasn't ever smelled as you describe. Probably best to speak to Dr. Does your surgery offer telephone consultations?

I would get it checked out tbh, have never noticed anything similar with dd and it must be a pretty strong smell if you notice when just changing nappy, maybe she has some kind of infection?

Do adult women smell?

My DD had this at a similar age when she'd had an allergic reaction to food causing diarrhoea for weeks.

The consultant said to prevent it like you would thrush - cotton underwear, no bubble baths, soap or other irritants, and making sure to wipe front to back after using the toilet (she was recently potty trained and thought she could do it all herself even with the diarrhoea!).

It soon cleared up without treatment when we identified the allergy properly and taught her "front to back" mantra in the bathroom.

Hope that helps
