dd has a temp of 104, should I be worried?

because I'm not but I'm very laid back with stuff like this.. it's Friday so if she gets worse there's no doctors until Monday.

I figure she's fine but interested in your thoughts..

DS regularly has temps like this, calpol and cool drinks. If there are not too many other symptoms ie lethargy vomiting I would not worry either.
If things change there is always OOH services

How old is she- you need to keep an eye on high temperatures in the under 5s as they can have febrile convulsions.

If it was me I would get her seen by a doctor today just in case.

Have you given her some Ibrufen? I always find this is much better at bringing down temperatures (and keeping them down) than calpol . If the temperature starts coming back up you can alternate between calpol and ibrufen to keep it back down so long as you do not exceed the doses for either within a 24 hour period.

she 6.. is completely flaked out at the minute in a drak room with the window open, no medication as yet as she just wants to sleep.

she'd have to be on her last legs before I took her to one of those OOH places have friends who have used them.. they sound like hell on earth

Should add that I am also laid back about sickness, but that is a high temp. Took Dd to docs last week...she was very lethargic, high temp, cough etc...turned out to be a chest infection.

Sorry didn't suggest ibuprofen out of habit DS is asthmatic so can't have it.
I have never had a problem with ooh mainly because its on an appt system round here so you are never there for more than 10 mins waiting

But DS spikes temps like that at least once a month, hence i am very laid back about them, probably not the best person to reply

thanks, jury is still out.

She has woken and wee'd offered to make her some dry toast but she doesn't want anything.. has had a little water and is staying in my bed.

Will check on her temp at lunchtime and see if it has varied any..

Don't want to worry you but I think 104 is pretty hot, and I'd be putting her in a tepid bath to try to cool her down slowly. Have you rung NHS direct?

no she's still asleep for the time being.. don't want to bath her as she had a shivery cold swet on earlier.. Will check on her in a minute

Mine usually get that hot when they get ill, any hotter though and I would go to the doctors. My doctor always tells me that it's normal and I already know it's the body's way of killing the germs. I don't always think it's best to medicate as it stops the body doing it's job; unless they feel ill of course.

her temp is 102 now but she feels hotter than earlier if there's any sense in that

she seems ok, just lying on her own upstairs, very lethergic but lucid.. will try and get her to eat something again later

sounds like the fever has broken - you are right not to bath try and keep her "sweaty" if that makes sense and she will cool down quicker...

dont make her eat
just keep giving her meds to keep temp down so she is comfy, lots of fluid and tlc

I was told that after getting a high temperature reading, to give DS Calpol/nurofen etc and then retake the temperature after 30-40 minutes. If it's gone down, even minutely then carry on with rest, fluids and regular calpol type meds. If there's no change in temp or it even increases then you need to see a doctor.

Having a high temp doesn't automatically make you feel shit, mine often feel fine when they have a high temp but at other times need something. Everyone is different. It's good they get hot as it means the body is working properly. I'd rather let the body do what it's supposed to (as long as they don't feel ill) and get the virus over with than medicate all the time.

If she does feel like eating at any point try giving her something with lots of water in to keep her fluids up, like homemade fruit puree or frozen orange juice cubes.

she's awake now and has come down stairs and now she's properly awake she has had some medicine.

she has been having sips of water throughout the day

still not hungry. I never said I would force her to eat I said I would try to get her to eat something later. and when I said something I meant half a slice of toast or something

Don't eat with a fever - if she's hungry just very light non milky stuff. I know it sounds odd but still keep her covered if she is sweaty as if she gets cold her fever will go up again..

she's asleep again but on sofa this time.. when she's awake she's lucid and semi-chatty so not going to take her to docs or anything. She's like me, I just sleep when I'm ill as well.

I would be dosing with calpol and phoning the surgery.
