Barking cough come on suddenly in DS3 (18 months)................

he seems ok otherwise, not having trouble breathing or anything, just when he cries he ends up doing a horrible barking cough, or just a normal cough comes out as a barking sound...

It's only started in the last hour or so, and isn't frequent........doesn't seem to fit with croup symptoms (apart from the cough) as there's no rasping sound when he breathes in - so what is it??

Croup? my DD1 was not rasping when she was breathing but she did have a vry very high temp and was tired(ish) Whooping cough? If he doesn't have a temprature and seems otherwise fine I'd just keep an eye on him.

It does sound like croup. My dd1 had exactly the same last week, but only at night, and fortunately no breathlessness. I would take him to the doctors to get his lungs checked out because it's possible tonight he will get worse (croup does tend to get worse at night).
