The title says it really. DS is a small 9 months and has had a horrible chest infection for about 5 weeks. Dr diagnosed bronchiolitis on Monday and put him on a second stronger dose of antibiotics. he's been ok in himself and is still at nursery but they just called to say he has now got a v high temp. surgery said to bring him in but will they send him to hospital? Does this sound like it coule be pneumonia? Hes only 2nd centile and already struggling with allergies. i feel frantic and terrible about sending him to nursery, even though dr said on Monday no reason not to.

It sounds like he may need to be in hospital - perhaps for iv antibiotics if the oral ones aren't working. They do work very quickly - so try not to worry (as if that's possible). Don't beat yourself up about sending him to nursery - you did what the experts told you. Now just go and get him and be as strong and calm as you can. Thinking about you.

possibly......be prepared, especially if he is wheezing or having breathing issues (in that way I mean fast shallow breathing.....with mine that was always a cue for hospital).

you have my sympathy.....four of mine got brochilitis lots when tiny, each ending up in hospital with it, and DD3 and DS1 also had pneumonia from it too.

the hospital each time were fab tho, so try not to fret if he needs to go in. I often felt that they recovered a lot quicker once they were in hospital as I could just concentrate on them and not fret about all the other stuff that needs doing when at home IYGWIM.

and stop with the guilt regarding nursery......it can;t be helped and you are not the only mum fretting over whether they have done the right thing or not. Mother-hood comes with a big dose of guilt enough without giving ourselves a bigger dose!

I hope he gets better soon.

Bronchiolitis is horrid Hope he's ok, thinking of you xx

Hope all is ok SC. My DD has bronchiolitis (although I was told there is little point treating with anti-biotics as it is viral?) and we ended up in hosp with her last week and it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated.

Would be interested to know how they treat it though as DD has had it for over 4 months now

dizzydixies · 26/11/2008 22:50

antibiotics are of no use Ewe as it IS viral.
my two youngest DDs had it, was in hosp for a week with DD2 and DD3 was just checked over and sent home

I was told she would have it until she's 2/3yrs and everytime she got a cold it would affect her chest

I would say DD2 has pretty much outgrown it now but we've kept her inhaler handy throughout just incase

usual advice about calpol/ibuprofen, steaming up a bathroom, keeping cot raised etc

strawberrycorneto hope your wee one is ok and you're all doing well
