I have let my DS eat too many apples.... We are now being punished.

By the Dentist. The guilt is vile. My poor DS who's 7 has to have a filling. He can eat up to 6 apples a day, most days 2/3.

We were told chocolate once a day is better than eating fruit all day long, for your teeth.

Don't beat yourself up - some people have weaker teeth than others. Is it a milk tooth?

Hmmm. My nearly four year old is heading this way. He eats loads of fruit and is none too good at brushing his teeth or allowing me to.

DS1 is the same sixer. I was totally ashamed when he had to have filling due to all the apples. I limit it to 2 a day now and give him a piece of cheese after.some kind mnetter recommended that.

Yes it's a milk tooth. I just didn't think.. Fruit bad...We have always said, yes help yourself to the fruit bowel. I can't believe we now have to be apple police.

Personally prefer fruit bowls...

I have the same guilt

Was really strict about DS1 not having sweets, fizzy pop or too much choc (in fact he never had sweets or fizzy pop except for at parties).

he is now 9 and has 2 fillings and due another (all in milk teeth).

Dentist blames apples, fruit juice, raisins and yogurts.

I brushed his teeth religiously til he was 7 and he took over and I still do now occasionally!

With DS2 I was far less strict on the sweet and choc eating and he is almost 5 and the dentist said he has the best teeth she has seen.

So in some respects I really think some kids are just more prone than others

My dentist (and a previous dentist) told me that basically you either have strong teeth or you don't. Diet and toothbrushing etc whilst important don't guarantee no fillings.

fwiw I eat all kinds of bad things like toffees, but only have 2 fillings. My teeth are strong, but uneven. Dh has loads of fillings, but eats much the same as me.

Don't beat yourself up too much. I do believe some teeth are stronger than others. I eat loads of bad food like toffees, coke etc. and I have no fillings at 22. My sister has a much healthier diet than me and has tons of fillings. Her teeth are much weaker due to having gastroenteritis when she was a baby.

DD eats apples all day long and she's seven with perfect teeth. Ds1 has tons of fillings, however, and isn't nearly so fond of fruit. I think it's the strength of the teeth, that's what my dentist said anyway.

Definitely the strength of teeth makes a big difference.
