He seems happy enough, no fever, but the rim of his eye is a bit red (they both are, but only one was crusty).
It is slightly weepy, but he hasn't been rubbing it at all, so it is not troubling him.
He has a runny nose but TBH he has had a runny nose for weeks now!

I'm a wee bit concerned it might be conjunctivitis. We are supposed being going to my ILS (1.5 hrs away) for a family party, but if we tell FIL ds might have conjunctivitis he'll tell us not to come - he has health issues due to having post polio syndrome.

If I knew it was I would definitely keep him home and just send DH and DSS.

Has anyone got any thoughts? I think I'll phone BIL - he has 2 dds and a dsd all under 5 so he and his dp might have some experience in this!

Normally I wouldn't mention it but in this case think I would if FIL is immunocompromised. Kids have gammy eyes all the time, mainly from pushing snot into them (sorry if tmi).

Wash ds's eye with tepid water and a cotton wool ball (can use cooled boiled water if you like, we never bothered beyond 3 months). If it persists for more than a few days or his eyes get gummed shut or look really sore go to docs for some ab cream.

My son got recurring bouts of conjuctivitis when he was 1+. All I can say is that schools and nurseries have very strict policies about keeping children off until it has cleared up-my son was frequently off with it! It's not serious but is highly contagious as far as I know. I was told to wipe each eye with cooled, boiled water from the corner outwards and to use a separate piece of cotton wool for each eye. He had ab cream for it aswell on a number of ocassions.
