DS gets leg ache frequently ...should I go to Doctors?

My ds is 3.8years and has noticeably been having leg ache at least once a month...been going on for around a year

This week he has woken twice complaining of it. Tonight he woke and was doubled up in pain, crying saying it really, really hurts. Ive rubbed it and given nueorfen.

I suffered from this was I was a child and remembe my Mum sitting on my bed for hours rubbing my legs.

Should I go to the doctors to get him checked out?

they do have growing pains, apparently.
how is his posture and walking, my dd had intoeing and had had "growing pains"

he's always walked on his toes!!! but I havent noticed this recently.

He did lots of running around on Sunday at a party and today had pre-school all day so again am putting it down to this ... and growing pains

my ds is often waking up in night complaining his legs hurt, crying etc. I remember growing pains as well. I haven't taken him to drs though, might mention when going for something else.

My DD2 gets pain in her foot more often than legs. But i would saying growing pains too.

I used to have this and still do occasionally. I used to rub in Deep Heat cream. That used to work long enough for me to get back to sleep and then in the morning the pain had gone.

Mine too - gets it at least once a week, but always when he has had a really energetic day. I give him calpol/ nurofen before bed after a particularly hectic day so that he doesn't get pain during the night.

Actually he did say it was his foot tonight.

I used to get that too. My Nan always said 'You've got a bone in your leg'.

She had an astonishing grasp of anatomy.

my DS2 has suffered for several years with dreadful growing pains (as has DD2 and DD3).

Over the years, I have found this to work best....

calpol and nurofen
hot water bottle for them to hold on their legs or lie their legs on
warm bed/ski socks.

I always keep a set of socks per child on either the water tank or a radiator (when the heating is on), ready for such nights, and it is what helps. I think they need to warmth to help relieve the spasms, and the pain killer helps with the bruised feeling they get.

I knwo all this as I still suffer from painful legs from my car accidents, and this works for me.

My two get these pains a lot, as did I for years (only there was no calpol or neurofen in those days!). I took the dcs to the doctor just to check & he said it was perfectly normal - bones, muscles & ligaments all growing at different rates etc - but go to your own GP if you think it'll put your mind at rest.
Just thank god for neurofen!

Yup, remember this, waking in the night and curling into the foetal position to help. Just had Dad to rub my legs which helped (not in the middle of the night mind you)! I also get similar pains as an adult when I do activity out of the ordinary. It doesn't sound sinister, not getting worse or happening too frequently? Poor thing though it's a miserable thing to go through. Do what PAMM suggests, good advice

I got something like this as a child and still do. My parents called it `growing pains' and used to rub my legs and give paracetamol. Now I get it when I'm tired. It usually starts in the ankle but spreads up the leg when it's really bad. I often get it if I wake up in the middle of the night, as if my body thinks it's not getting any more sleep IYSWIM. I usually have to take a painkiller otherwise I can't get back to sleep. It does hurt a lot!
