Hirschsprungs disease anyone with any experience of this

Hi
This is the fisrt time I have posted I have a 9 month old DS2 who was diagnosed with this 2 days after he was born after he failed feed and didn't poo and had found to have a bowel obstruction. He was rushed an hour and half away to specialist childrens hospital where they cleared obstruction without surgery but was diagnosed with hirschsprungs where there is no nerves in the bottom end of the bowel a few days later after having biopsy.

He was in hospital nearly 2 weeks before being discharged and had to have daily bowel washouts before they could operate when he was 6 weeks old. Had pull through operation which lasted about 6 hours by key hole surgery and only left with 2 tiny scars.

He is perfectly normal now and the only thing the doctor has said is that he may have problems with constipation or opposite when he is older but will be monitored until he is potty trained.

Would be interested to hear from anyone else with any experience of this..

Just decided to do a search on HD and came up with this thread...

stressedmum2,are you still about..? I have posted on mn about HD after ds was born in feb 07 with it.
He is nearly 2 years old and its still rearing its ugly head BUT we are coping (just lol!)

How is your ds..?
Ds had a pull through via his bottom BUT got an infected hours after surgery so ended up with a stoma being fitted. This was removed sept 08.

We are not even thinking about potty training yet and tbh as your ds is only 12 months Old I suggest you do the same. Ds's surgeon has told me to wait till ds is ready and guesses this may even taken him way beyond when dd was pt, maybe when he is 2.6 yrs or 3 yr..?
Hope to hear back x

bumping this from a while ago...just seeing if stressedmum2 is still around on mn or even if there are any other hd babies or lo's...?

My ds has hd, diagnosed at birth. He is now 20 months and has had ups and downs, including a stoma and enterocolitis. Would be really happy to talk to anyone else about the condition, we have learnt a lot. We are very lucky to be in Oxford under the care of an amazing consultant and hospital.

potty training has not even crossed my mind yet!

shhh and stressedmum2, hope your lo's are doing well.

Katrina
