She has been through enough, I know she'll get so scared too. She's had it in a week after an operation. She is two.

It will feel a bit weird, but it won't hurt her.
Poor wee thing. Hope she's feeling a bit better.

anyfucker · 13/10/2008 20:46

aww, poor little mite

I am sure they will distract her and have it out before she even knows what is happening !

Those NHS staff are bloody marvellous you know

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 20:51

Thank you bith. They are marvellous, are you one of them? She has to have regular blood tests and has collapsed veins so always a struggle and she gets very frightened when anything is being done atm there. Its so close to the op I hope she doesn't gettoo upset, she's still very bruised down there at least on the day ward where we are having it taken out, she knows the staff and they will make a fuss of her and there is usually a play therapist or two while they do bloods so hope they do the same tomorrow. Need to get the gauzey stuff off first its stuck fast and she gets very upset when I try to look at it let alone pull it off!

Thank you BITH? What is wrong with me?! Maybe I should ask mn to change the title?

OP posts:
anyfucker · 13/10/2008 21:26

I am one of them

anyfucker · 13/10/2008 21:26

good luck with it all

what op does she have to have ?

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 21:29

Lol thought you might be! She's had the op it was to correct a problem with her bladder and tubes caused by her condition. Bless her she's had to cope with a lot. She recovered so well though it was amazing. Ca't wait for the catheter to come out now, just hope its not too traumatic for her.

anyfucker · 13/10/2008 21:38

oh, I see

just the catheter to come out now then ?

piece of piss ! (as it were )

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 21:45

Yes just that bit, will be glad to get it over with as am sick of emptying it at night and obviously she will be glad too as its a bit restrictive for her. Not half as bad as I expected though. Which is good as she'll be having part two of the op next year. So this shouldn't hurt much then? I am so squeamish I've found it a nightmare as can't help but link it to how I felt with stitches after her. Hope it doesn't hurt her to wee afterwards is that likely do you think?

OP posts:
RambleOn · 13/10/2008 21:57

Mine didn't hurt to come out, or to wee afterwards. Not even uncomfortable. She'll be fine

anyfucker · 13/10/2008 21:59

might be a little sore or a bit "burny" but will soon settle

it will feel very strange, not in a nasty way, for her to wee properly again

it shouldn't feel anything like stitches as no soft tissues have been actually cut (not for the catheter alone anyway)

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 22:05

She has had stitches anyfucker but that was why the cathteter was in to prevent it all getting infected so I hope it all will have healed a bit by now. She will probably be scared as much as anything then, so I will make sure there is a play therapist in there too, there is usually one there. Glad yours didn't hurt Rambleon, thats good to know. I actually think the fact that DD isn't thinking about it all too much as an adult would, has been helpful. She's just done what she wants to and stopped when it hurts from what I can see!

anyfucker · 13/10/2008 22:06

she will be fine, good luck

DesperateHousewifeToo · 13/10/2008 22:11

Oh, used2be, how are you? How has it all gone?

Have ben meaning to email to see how everything went.

Did they do the more minor option in the end as you thought a few weeks ago?

I'm so glad it's nearly over.

Was the whole hopsital thing a nightmare or not as bad as you thought?

Have been thinking about you but you know how dreadful I am at emailing at the mo. (things not likely to calm down till after xmas here).

Hope to hear that catheter comes out easily tomorrow.

xx

used2bthin · 13/10/2008 22:30

Thanks Anyfucker! Hi DHT, it went ok thanks. They actually tried both at once but weren't able to so she still needs another which was disappointing but no surprise. The actual thing hit me harder than I expected really and I hadn't realised she'd need the catheter in so long after this one altho I have to say that part of it has been ok (touch wood for tomorrow!) it was the actual op etc that was awful and shewas so ill just after it was not nice, I feel she's had a bad time iyswim, well I know she has and feel awful for her. Got her speech therapy referal through btw, it said 15-18weeks but the nurse rang and said she spoke to the SALT at the surgery and she said DD will be seen more quickly than that, partly as her list isn't TOO long and partly as she feels she needs seeing sooner rather than later. Which I'm pleased about but worried too that she thinks there is a problem.

Ps don't worry at all about the email thing just get in touch when you can! How are things? Busy from the sound of it?!x

used2bthin · 14/10/2008 14:38

You were all spot on! The worst bit was getting the tape off that held it in place. Had to stay on the ward till she did a wee which she did no problem so we were home by lunch time. Phew.

anyfucker · 14/10/2008 14:41
