DD has an infection at the side of her big toenail.

What's the plaster that you get to put on it? Magnesium sulphate? Magnesium something anyway. Anyone know?

you can get magnesium sulphate paste to draw out pus, but think you have to be prescribed it

watch it carefully though, infection in extremities can turn serious as circulation not as good (ds ended up on really high-dose antibios for infected toenail)

OK. Thanks dinny. I know I got mine from the GP but I thought it might be over the counter stuff. Don't want anti-bs for her unless it's absolutely essential.

Think you should get it looked at. My DD had the same and it became worse really quick and we ended up in minor injuries on a Sunday. As it happens they put magnesium sulphate on it and bandaged it up. Luckily she did not need antibiotics but i'm glad I got it seen to. Hope she gets better soon.

I'm going to the GP myself this morning. Might see if she will give me some advice. If neccessary I will make an appointment. Chemist is next door so will try for mag sulph too.

I realise you have been to the Go already but my mum is a nurse and has always used a home made poultice on us when we were growing up (and I use it now).
Plain soap (ege sunlight) 1 teaspoon scraped/grated
White sugar 1/2 teaspoon
Mix together
Place over infected toe and cover with a bug plaster.
Infection is drawn out.
Works for splinters too

GP suggested I try mag sulph first, and then bring her back if she is still bad after a day or 2. No probs getting the paste from the chemist.

She would be fascinated I suspect. Probably want to keep it in a jar and feed it stuff.
