DD is full of cold and she is not well with it at all. I cant get her to eat or drink so I rang my HV for some advice this morning and she said to give DD medised.

I have read now that you cannot give medised to DC under 2 years of age, apparently it has changed recently from 3mo upwards.

DD is 10.5 mo. WWYD? would you listen to the HV or go with what it says on the box?

Thanks Coochy, I did not know about the decongestant factor. But it's a fever suppressant and will slow recovery unless the child is not sleeping at all and desperately needs it. I wouldn't use it but everyone is different and knows their child best.

Cant some children get fits if their temperature goes too high?

bleurgh · 08/10/2008 20:15

Yes but still. It's very unusual. There are quite a lot of Calpol-naysayers around these days!

coochybottom · 08/10/2008 20:19

Yes, I have seen a thread about that only recently. Its a new one on me!

PS:you can get Sudafed which is a decongestant on its own if thats all you would be happy giving.

It works! And it's backed up by studies too. But it's all down to the mother and the child.

Have just given paracetamol to my kid as a painkiller. If they have a fever I DON'T give it.

But I am a bit extreme...

HELP!! My 8month old son has been waking up almost every hour for the last few weeks, but now My doc prescribed Medised for him, because he's teething and very snotty at night. Since ive given him Medised, he sleeps all night after only one dose, this is great!! BUT, tonight is the 5th night I have given it to him, I dont want him to get used to it, or harm him by giving it every night!! Was going to try without tonight but he had a late sleep this aft, was very grouchy, overtired and fighting it! How much is too much?
