Any remedies for a toddler's cough?

My poor DS (nearly 2) has a bad cough (mostly dry) which is stopping him from sleeping . I personally think cough medicine's a load of nonsense and apparently some medics do, too! But does anyone know of any remedies suitable for a child of his age that actually work? Any tips much appreciated!

My DD coughed and coughed last winter - I took her back to the doctor 3 times (because I also think cough medicine does nothing at all) before giving up. We bought a humidifier (I checked her room and it was about 15% or something - it is supposed to be above 30 for comfort) and ran it overnight: we never heard the cough again. Might be worth a shot if his room is dry, it was only about 40 quid or so.

Honey - hmm...I'd think that's a bit strong for a little one, he'd prob find it choked him.

Humidifier - great tip. I'll go and put a bowl of boiling water in his room right away.

Glad I'm not the only one to doubt the power of cough meds - I don't get how something that feels soothing when it's in your oesophagus is meant to help your lungs!

Thanks, both!
