First lot of immunisations - what to expect?

Hi all
My ds has got his first lot of immunisations on Monday and I am dreading it! What should I expect? He is already quite unsettled so you can imagine my anxiety! Also, he will be 10 weeks by then, but I thought they were meant to have them at 8 weeks? This is the date I was given by the doctors - should I have challenged it or does it not matter? Thanks x

Make sure you feed him beforehand. Get in some Calpol. Be prepared for him to be quite sleepy. Try to be calm for his sake, rather than 'nasty injection, nasty nurse' type vibes.

Ds may not cry but YOU will . Well I did .

I would be very wary of 'a quite sleepy child'. Look it up for yourself what you should expect. Do some research.

Agree with MrsSprat re you being calm. Also, my HV advised to give calpol before going in as would take the edge off it. Also advised me to take my dd straight out into the hallway away from the room where it took place - the distraction and change of scenery worked instantly. I was lucky that mine finished around feed time and a warm bottle of milk was an instant soother.

sorry - you also asked about the timescales -from what I can gather it is a guidelne time - I always went by the date given by the HV/Doc

Don't panic if the site of the innoculation becomes raised, red and hot after a few hours. Quite normal. Baby might be rather fractious for a while after also.

This doesn't always happen. DD1 was like this but DD2 just breezed through!

As for "nasty inection/ nasty nurses"

Think "nasty disease- baby won't get it" much more positive!

Write off the day to do anything else - just stay in and play/ let them sleep etc. DON'T LOOK AT THE NEEDLE GOING IN!! You probably won't be ready for the first cry of pain Get some chocolate in to console yourself.
