mumps vaccine shortage- bit worried!

My DS is 3.10 and we have gone the singles vaccine route. However, with one thing or another happening we are really behind with the jabs so he's only had his single measles and rubella so far. He's having them done with DH2000 who tell me there's a mumps vaccine shortage so there seems uncertainty about if/when he'll get this vaccine. They did say he's priority because he's a boy etc. but I really don't want him going to school next September without having had it. Is anyon else in the same boat and kind of wishing they'd gone for the MMR now!

You can still go for the MMR. The fact that he has already had the singles of the other 2 just means that his body will destroy the measels and rubella componants.

There was a shortage last year as well, and ours were delayed. Are these his boosters or his first jabs?

tigger- is that really true? I have never heard that before. For me to give DS MMR now, he would need the 2 doses of it as he hasn't even completed his first round of singles.

Yes, it is fine to have the MMR even if you have been separatly vaccinated against 1 or 2 of the componants, or even if you have had 1 or 2 of the illnesses.
Your GP will be able to confirm.

Mumps is very very rarely a worry in small boys (or in older boys come to that). TBH I don't even understand the logic behind giving it.

Jimjams- isn't it infertility that is the worry with boys and mumps?

It's extremely rare- I looked up (sensible) figures recently- and the figures were incredibly low. It only has a chance of occurring if mumps is caught post puberty anyway.

Adults with mumps are more likely to get complications (still pretty rare though) and more likely to feel grotty.

Health protection agency (which you can assume will give the worst case scenario) quotes up to 25% of adult males who catch mumps developing swelling of the testes -usually only one- but goes onto say 'Sterility seldom occurs".

lol jimjams you been busy. Lol get this Jims my old friend who is 88 said she and all her family had all the kids diseases. Never hears anyone die of measles, and even her brother had dipetheria and her mum nursed him and got it and she was pregnant at the time. Yes it was nasty but they both recoverd and she had a healthy child. This was even before anti biotics.

And tigger are you really qualifed to reccomned multiple doses of live vaccines for children.
