I love watching BM dissolve the gunk! Almost enough to look forward to DD2 getting sticky eyes!

Yup - contains antibacterial agents and stuff that dissolves the gunge. When DS had conjunctivitis the GP was the one that recommended it and refused to give him eye drops as BM was soo much better

BM is sterile which is also why it works so well.

My midwife told me about this when dd's eyes went gunky at 2wks - it worked overnight! Wish I had some now as her eyes are suffering again at the moment!

Lol at offering your BM around - I'm fairly certain the benefits are because BM is so closely linked to her (and your) immune systems . And yes, it really does work, that's right!

not sure how your friend would take it though, might be bes just to suggest salt water washes to her

lol, next time I am spraying ds in the face, I am going to aim at his eye, as its a bit gunky!

My midwife with ds1 told me about this (nearly 10 years ago). She was African and had worked for years as a midwife in villages where, if anyone had an eye infection, they'd just going and see someone they knew to be bf for medication. Amazing.

Well that man last night on that program, thinks it cured his cancer, so maybe it would work on friends child!

No one would look at you strangely in NZ - it's a common Maori cure and one all midwives suggest.

Frozen might not work as well, tbh - breastmilk is living, the antibacterial stuff is alive, and presumably gets weaker, the more you do to the milk.

This brings back memories of me 'aiming' into my 4 day old baby's eye and him blinking through the puddle of milk sat on his eye.

It's so cool, isn't it? I always pass on that nugget of info - people are amazed when you tell them and even more amazed when it works!

Am at your GP, though...

Worked for me with DS3. My parents were staying with us at the time and they were just gobsmacked (my mum didn't breastfeed, so it was all news to them).
