Red spots and blotchy patches on 6mo - does this sound like chicken pox?

Ds2 has raised red spots and some red blotchy patches all over his back. Some of the spots have a white head, but only a tiny head. There are no spots elsewhere on his body, he doesn't have a temperature, and is eating fine.

I've googled some pictured of chicken pox and it doesn't look quite like that (spots/heads are smaller), but it looks nothing like other rash alternatives (measles, german measles etc).

Can't get a doctor's appointment today.

This sounds a bit like something DS has on his cheeks. Tiny, under the skin bumps and then one or two turned to whiteheads. He's just turned one and I put it down to physical changes so will keep an eye on this one just in case !

You have a 6 month old baby with a rash and you can't be seen today? That is shocking.

FWIW, when mine had CP, the spots were all there was to see, not any blotchy patches, but I guess different children may get different symptoms.

I'm wondering if it could be an allergic reaction to something instead.

Cats (just back from MIL's house which stinks of cat, although the cat itself was awol)?
Something he has eaten (we're only a couple of weeks into weaning)?

I still can't get over the fact that you can't get an appt with the doctor. Did you mention you wanted your 6 month old baby's rash looked at? It seems incredible to me that such a symptom in one so young could be left.

I'm sure they'd have given me an appointment if I'd pushed for it, but I didn't. He seems so fine in himself that I didn't see the need.

I'm going to review the situation when he wakes up (and will attempt to put a photo of the rash on my profile).

Hmmm yes, hard to tell from those photos. How is he in himself now?

No change at all - no fever, reasonably good spirits, ate plenty of dinner. Possibly a few more spots, but it is hard to tell. His back looks redder and spottier than in the pictures.

I'll take him to the GP tomorrow if there is no improvement.

Took ds2 to see the GP today. Apparently it looks like chicken pox but isn't (because it isn't behaving like chicken pox, or something). GP said it was a severe allergic reaction to something, but had no idea what (and didn't seem very interested in finding out what).

That sounds pretty cr*p Muffin (feels odd calling you that as I have a cat called Muffin!)

Have you started weaning yet? Might he be alergic to something you gave him to eat? Perhaps you might get more sense talking things over with your HV? Anyway, glad he is not ill with CP.

He's not the best GP in the world, imo, but he's the only one we can use (rural area). He said to go back in a week if the rash is still there.

We've been weaning for about 2/3 weeks now. For all I know I'm continuing to feed him whatever he is allergic to.

I can see a good hv in a couple of weeks time (she's only available once a fortnight) or a 'chocolate teapot' one next week.

I don't really know what to do next, and am a bit p**d off with the GP.
