OK I feel pathethic but I am so sad that dd2 failed her eye test today

it was a standard 4 year check one and there is no doubt her left eye is no where near as good as her right eye. I feel all sad about it...so she may need glasses it is not the end of the world right? She has to go back in 2 months and then if she fails again (which I am sure she will) will get refered the hosiptial.

I know its upsetting, My dd2 has been wearing glasses since she was 21 months, She is now nearly 4 and its a part of life. Just go with it. We are currently patching too which is proving fun!!

French kids wear the coolest glasses, they are gorgeous!

I know what you mean, it's sad to think that your LO is not 'perfect'.

OTOH, if she does get glasses, they should help. My dd got glasses age 5 and is (mostly) happy to wear them, because she sees more clearly with them. Also because we kept telling her how cute she was with glasses on

I know - and there are plenty worse things than needing glasses...

Ds2 has the same problem, he has been wearing glasses since April and now has to wear a patch 4 hours a day to bring his 'weak' eye up to strength.

I cant imagine him without glasses now tbh. There are far worse things that he could have been diagnosed with.

When I was 3 I was diagnosed with a squint. My mother told me recently that she sat crying in the waiting room at the thought of her little girl wearing glasses.
Then a boy came in who only had one eye due to an accident in the playground.
Mum stopped crying immediately. I wore patches occasionally and my squint was gone by age 9.

I was still perfect, just a perfect child with glasses fgs.

ds1 just got glasses, age 6, i felt terrible for him (not least cos i'm -7 in both eyes so got it from me!) til i realised he was absolutely delighted about wearing glasses... has got big red ones which he loves and looks adorable in. loads of kids in his class at school have them and doesn't seem to be the same stigma attached to it as there was when i was a speccy kid.

I know how you feel. I was slated big time on here when I said my DH was gutted our son needed glasses but DS has coped brilliantly, his friends haven't made a big deal of it and he hasn't had any mean comments. He looks so blooming gorgeous in them too. He hasn't been wearing them in the holidays so might not need them full time. I find I need mine more and more lately but have some new better ones so we are fine together.
