DD3 has an infected thumb where she sucks it (95% certain)....what timescale to take to GP? How do I avoid Fluclox?

DD3; 2.3 has a green ous filled blister on her thumb sucking callus. 95% certain it is infected cos of colour. A bit red an inflamed around it.

Options I have are
Walk-In centre (served by GPs) tonight
GP tomorrow afternoon
GP tomorrow morning (which I am less keen on due to convenience; but at the end of the day her health is more important than my work appointments)

Second question...I have seen GP for 3 skin infections in the past; Once they prescribed oral ABs (amoxyl I think) and AB cream. Twice they have prescribed Flucloxacillin....which is the most hideous medicine available in the pharmacist; and has no efficacy when applied to the surface of a T-shirt which is invariably where it ends up. Can I refuse Fluclox on the grounds of taste?

You can dip her thumb in diluted Hydrogen Peroxide if you can manage to stop her from sucking it that is - it will oxidise the bacteria in the wound and it should heal ok - you have to get her to stop sucking it though as the heat and moisture from her mouth is going to help those bacteria thrive - god knows what she will get in her mouth if it pops!!!!

She has stopped sucking it and started sucking her other thumb...so that one is solved.

I'm sure it can wait til tomorrow afternoon. How long has she had it? DS had a manky thumb for a week or so, and I managed to avoid ABs.

I'm pretty sure you can ask for an alternative AB too.

You shouldn't need anti-staphylococcal antibiotics if your daughter has no problems with her immune system.

Find some way of stopping her sucking it and it should heal on its own.

?antibiotic cream or even just savlon and a tight bandage, one of those proper thumb bandages.

First noticed it this evening...I think DP noticed it earlier (and ignored it)
