Dentist advice - adult tooth not coming through?

Does anyone have any experience of a tooth seeming to be stuck? DS8 lost his lateral incisor baby tooth c.18 months ago but there is still no sign of the adult tooth coming through.

He had an x-ray recently with our NHS dentist where they said it looked fine beneath the gum and should come through soon - but I'm wondering how long is normal to wait?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My DS was like that but with all of his teeth. He was never keen on food he needed to chew so maybe that contributed. They did come through eventually. I can’t remember how long it was.

Thanks @DustyMaiden

I'll try encouraging him to chew on it but think those front teeth get in the way somewhat. But worth a go!

You could ask your dentist to numb the area and place a small relieving incision to allow the tooth to come in.

Thanks @oral - is that something you've got experience of, did it work?

Sorry, should have said, I’m a dentist and have used this approach occasionally. It does work
