Hip MRI for teenage son: head first or feet first?

My 15 year old DS is due to have an MRI of his hip in a couple of weeks and he’s very nervous about the process. Does anyone know which direction you go in when it’s for a hip? I thought they were all head first but the leaflet said it can be head or feet first depending on what they are scanning.

I’m trying to reassure him that it won’t be that bad (I fell asleep when I had my brain one after a suspected TIA),

I thought that about my first MRI but I made the mistake of opening my eyes on the way in. Now I always ask for the mirror glasses before I go in (I need them regularly).

I have to have them annually and I’ve never opened my eyes inside so it’s not a problem. I feel like if I peeped once that’d be it and I’d always find it super claustrophobic!

I didn’t mean to open my eyes. It happened by accident. I shut them really quickly 😃

I’ve had two MRIs.

One head, which was awful, noisy claustrophobic hated it.

One abdominal absolutely fine. I was head first for that.

Hope he copes ok.

Get him to watch one on YouTube first for the noise aspect. I watched videos afterwards as the noise baffled me and I wished I knew about it beforehand, I found it oddly relaxing though.
