Baby hasn’t had a bowel movement for over 1 week

My formula fed 3 month old has not had a bowel movement for 8 days now. She used to go at least once per day if not more. Then she had her vaccines at 9 weeks, this resulted in her only going every 4 days. Took her to the next set of vaccines and mentioned this to the Nurse, she said it’s perfectly normal as long as she’s not showing signs of pain, which she wasn’t. She then had the second set, pooed the next day, now it’s been 8 days with nothing. I took her to the GP on Monday and they checked she is okay by feeling and listening to her tummy. Told me to come back at the end of the week if still no bowel movement.

Does anyone have any tips? I feel like we have tried everything including:

Baths
tummy massages
foot massages
small amounts of cool boiled water in between feeds
bicycle legs

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Is she breastfed and not weaned? One of mine went ages without pooing - like maybe 2 weeks?

I wouldn’t be happy with that for a formula feed baby. I would be seeking a second opinion.

We were always told to put a pinch of sugar in the milk ... I am.sure that would be frowned on now!

We used to give ours a few granules of brown sugar in cooled boiled water to get them going i wont advise that! 😀 Have you tried doing cycle motions in the bath sometimes the warm water helps them go.

Have you tried putting them in a bouncer chair?

Gently massage lower tummy In a CW direction

Back in the day I was advised a little orange juice diluted in cooled boiled water. I suspect it had the same effect as brown sugar. How did the poo look after the four days was it fairly firm and then a bit loose?

I know one of mine used to get a bit constipated when under the weather and it’d act like a slow moving stopper. Followed by a poonami of epic proportions,

Mine went around the same amount of time and it was just after her 12 week jabs too! I seem to remember she pooed on the 8th day and it wrecked an entire outfit well beyond saving. Keep going with the bicycle legs etc and fingers crossed things will happen soon 🤞

Thanks for the replies!

She is just formula fed on Aptamil. The one last time was like a mountain of mash potato consistency in her nappy followed by diarrhoea that was obviously trapped behind. Usually it’s a diarrhoea consistency but obviously this time it’s going to be hard for her. Poor thing I can hear her making little pushing sounds throughout the day but nothing is coming… I don’t want to get fobbed off if I phone the GP again but I am really concerned it will become so hard she won’t be able to pass it all.

Did it go back to normal eventually?

After a while yes - she slowed down to once every few days and then gradually went back to daily. From memory it might have taken a month or so to be back to some form of normal 😊

@Poopootime have you tried a little bit of baby prune juice (comes in pouches)? Can dilute with boiled water for a young baby.
