Worried my 14-year-old son has not started puberty yet

DS 14 still hasn’t reached puberty yet which has me worried although I’n a single mum (dad isn’t around) so I’m not sure on the best course of action. From what I have read for boys it can be between 11-14 but what happens at 14 when nothing had happened? Would it be best to go via NHS to investigate? He has another issue that I was planning on taking him for which may or may not be related. Just worried about it a lot lately

Talk to the GP for sure. Puberty is considered delayed if no signs present by 14, so it is worth flagging.

Go via GP and ask for an endocrine referral. All being well, testosterone will be offered. 1 injection a month for 6 months to kick start puberty. Worked for us. I would definitely be asking now.

It won't hurt to see a GP, but my DS was similar at just turned 14 but started about 6 weeks later. Saying that apart from a very fine moustache I wouldn't have noticed any of the early signs unless I saw him naked ( I wasn't looking but he's not good at shutting doors).

We had this with our son. Our GP referred him to an endocrinologist who sent him for an x ray of his arm to show whether he was entering puberty. In his case he wasn’t and he was prescribed a drug called oxandrolone which worked really.well. He entered puberty and is just under six foot.

What counts as no signs?

DS has got sparse pubic hair (from what he says!) and he has some armpit hair and is growing a bit quicker but still hasn’t had any voice changes or facial hair.

He’s very slim and is about 5ft 4 which doesn’t sound that small but compared to his friends he looks like a little kid!

Probably not best for me to say publicly here haha. But I know for certain he doesn’t really have signs from the little I know about male puberty. My son is 5ft 2 so not teeny tiny but certainly ones of the smallest amongst peers
