Can anyone else see lymph nodes in their child's neck? (Picture attached)

My DD (age 6) has a lymph node on her neck that when she looks up seems hugely prominent. I first noticed it around March this year so took her to the gp who did some blood tests which were fine. As it didn't go down she was referred to a paediatrician who took a look at it and said it was two lymph nodes sitting on the muscle which made it look more prominent and she wasn't concerned at all.

in august she was poorly and it swelled up a lot more so much so that I could see it when she just looked forward so I took her to a private paedrictian who agreed to ultrasound for piece of mind. The ultrasound showed the node was reactive in terms of composition of what was inside but it was right on the upper limit of normal size (bang on 1cm and it can up to 1cm). They said that if it got a lot bigger then come back and they can rescan.

this was probably the worst thing they could have said to me as I feel like I am watching it constantly and when I spot it my blood runs cold. my DD is upside down doing gymnastics all the time so I keep spotting her neck. I found myself at her gym comp last week looking at everyone else's neck and couldn't see it on anyone else.

so I'm wondering whether anyone else's little ones have neck nodes visable like this that seem to be there all the time? She had another smaller one on the other side of her neck.

I don't want to put her through a biopsy if I'm just worrying unnecessarily because of my own anxieties .

We had this about a year ago with two lymph nodes, they also had an ultrasound and apparently fine but they have never gone down. I think they always say if the get bigger come back (they did to us) but I think they mean a lot bigger so you'd definitely notice it changing.

It can be common in children. If she's had it since March with no other symptoms and has been generally well in herself, it is very unlikely to be something sinister.

My dd did, gp not worried. I think we got an ultrasound eventually as it stressed me out. It was just a big standard enlarged lymph node.

@99bottlesofkombuchacan I ask how long you think they had it for? Everything I've read talks about them going down once any illness has passed but they're just staying this same size.

I’ve had one in my neck for approximately 20 years. It goes up and down but never disappears. I’ve had US, blood tests and a biopsy multiple times over the years privately because NHS keep saying it is nothing. I think I even had an MRI once. All tests come back clear every time. There is no explanation for it, but I still worry every time I think it has got bigger, and insist on getting it checked out.

Just wanted to reassure you that it can be a long term thing with absolutely nothing worrying!

Months at least, as we saw gp about it some time before we went again and asked for the ultrasound. He was about 4

My DS who is almost 2 has had this since June. He had an ear infection and it’s never gone away since. Iv had him at the Drs twice and they said it’s fine. Like you though I’m always worrying about it 😕
