How can I get more Movicol into my 23-month-old?

I need to get just over 60ml of the plain Movicol solution into DS, who is 23mo. He refuses to drink it by itself. I don’t think for a second he’d entertain any of the flavoured versions.

So far, I’m having success mixing 10ml into really thick Greek yoghurt, and adding fruit. I’m doing this twice a day, so he’s getting 20ml.

I have no idea how to get the rest into him other than by pinning him down, which he will get really distressed by (but we’ll do it if we have to because of course a few minutes of distress is better than doing very hard and painful poos twice a week!). I’d be grateful for any suggestions. Thank you.

Movicol is fine, my child was on it for about 7 years. We used fresh orange or squash

Gosh this brings back memories. I remember being so desperate to get it into our 2yo DD that we ended up using strawberry milk powder to make a milkshake and then added it to that. Not my first choice but in the end I figured we could counter some of the sugar with good dental practices and that was better than having her constipated and miserable. 🤦🏻‍♀️

There are lots of health risks with Movicol if I remember rightly.

I'd try PHGG / Sunnier which does a similar job but has other health benefits and is tasteless, courless and odourless.

Where did you get this information? Because it was explained to be by my doctor that is was very safe, due to all movicol completely leaving your body in your bowels movements.

Constipation is a top symptom of dairy allergy. So I would reduce milk rather than trying to use it to get them to take the movicol.

This is not correct. Movicol is really good as children can be on it for long term with no risks! The last thing you want is a stretched bowel.

are you working for a vitamin company?

Pears are really good - tinned ones and drink the juice (not the syrup ones)
it’s my go to if I ever get issues

its ten years since I went through this with DD, but I could have sworn you couldn’t mix it with anything dairy because it counteracted the medicine

We put it in one of those children’s smoothie juices, tropical flavour

I also give in a syringe, mixed with syringe. Gets the job done quicker for us.
