Cardiac Risk in the Young charity

Has anyone been to an appointment with them? I have an appointment coming up for my DS and I wondered if anyone could tell me what to expect on the day?

My DS went a few years ago. It was very efficient and well organised. Ours was at a sports stadium so very convenient for parking. We showed up a few minutes before our appointment, sat in a waiting area and were called through pretty much on time. DS went into one room and had an ECG done which took maybe 5 mins, then back to the waiting area. Then shortly afterwards we were called in to see one of the doctors who asked a few questions about DS's health, what sports he does and so on, and then explained that there were no worrying features on his ECG at present so he was at low risk, but that obviously no screening programme is 100% accurate so to seek advice if worried at any point. I think we got a leaflet explaining that, and what to do if any concerns in the future. If they do find anything concerning I think they then arrange further tests at a future date, not on the day but as DS didn't need anything else I can't be completely sure about that.
But yeah, it was quick, efficient and the people were all really friendly - nothing unpleasant or scary at all. Usually the events are funded by a local charity or fundraising group and at ours there was the opportunity to donate to that group which we did do, but it wasn't high pressure at all.

DS had a screening last year and it was just as the pP described.

DS was advised he needs to go back age 16 for a re-screen (they did explain why, it’s because they saw something that is v likely not an issue and will change as he gets older but they just want to check).

it was an easy process and I’m glad we went - DS plays a very physical sport at a high level so it’s good to get him checked out!
