Molluscum - have any adults caught it?

Has anyone caught molluscum off their kids? My daughter has it on her arms and it's hard not to come into contact with it. But I read that adults are mostly already immune. Any experience of this?

My nephews girlfriend caught it as an adult. Not sure where she picked it up from (wasn’t my kids and she doesn’t see many other small ones).

Raccoonsmacaroons · 01/08/2026 23:13

I did from my son, donkeys years ago. I burst the first few and that seemed to activate the kill response for the others pretty quickly. They’ve never come back.

sunshineandrain82 · 01/08/2026 23:53

Yes I did. I was pregnant at the time. But the other 2 adults in my household didn’t. All 3 kids had it though.

5050canwormkwell · 02/08/2026 06:23

Oh no! So seems like I need to try and be careful then. Really hard day-to-day when they have lots if spots. Maybe best just to accept I might catch it and will cope if I do!

No I didn’t and we managed to clear it pretty quickly with molludab - took two weeks of consistent application.

HoraceCope · 02/08/2026 07:05

interestingly no, i didnt catch it despite ds catching it

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 02/08/2026 07:23

Dd had it for 2 years. I didn’t catch it.

Shortbreadel · 02/08/2026 07:24

We didn't catch it. DC's took a few months to clear up.

menopausequeen · 02/08/2026 07:38

I caught it but only had a few spots which the dermatologist froze off for me. I was referred as the GP was worried it was skin cancer.

impartialusername · 02/08/2026 07:47

Currently my son is battling this it’s getting me down. I haven’t caught it it’s been a couple of months and neither has any other adults around him.

My DD had it for 18 months and I was despairing. A few rounds of pimple patches and recovery was swift!

Kiwifruity · 02/08/2026 07:53

And none of the rest of us got it luckily.

SixAndJuliet · 02/08/2026 07:56

My DD had it for a few months in the creases of her elbows and under her armpits. Treated with Molludab eventually.

It was horrible but we didn’t catch it from her and neither did her brother.

5050canwormkwell · 02/08/2026 10:09

Thanks everyone. We did try treating the two biggest spots with molludab but it didn't work. The others are little and scattered and think it would leave a large sore area if tried to apply molludab.
Not sure whether it's worth trying to avoid contact with the spots or not. Probably worse for her to stop her giving me a hug unless we have long sleeves on, than it is for me to catch molluscum!

I was worried about this too. The pimple patches have the added benefit of covering the molluscum and preventing spread (we used disposable gloves to take them off).

Honestly, I would really encourage you to give the pimple patches a go. You only have to put them on a couple of the spots, as then it “activates” the immune system to deal with the molluscum. I was skeptical, but it really did work! We did the pimple patches for a few weeks and in a month it was nearly cleared up. This was after 18 months of them spreading more and more over DD’s body. She has at least 50, which are now all gone.

Wow that sounds like an impressive result!! Which ones did you use?

It was a bastard to get rid of,
my son caught it in a damp
apartment in Tenerife. He’s got OCD so it was quite distressing

In the end I needled them and they cleared up quite quickly

These are the ones I used. We are in NZ, so hopefully you also have them in UK.

I got the idea from other molluscum threads on here, so I think other brands work too!

We changed them daily and also varied which spots we put them on. But usually only 2 or 3 spots at a time, as that is all my DD would tolerate.

Yes my daughter got it from a holiday resort in Greece. Her and 4 other kids. (Not even on same flights etc) all got it same day as we arrived on the same day and they came out with it on the same day.

my other 2 got it from her over time. We had 18 months of battling it. Would gonna come back. She missed so much school over it.

ThinKingCaps5 · 04/08/2026 16:20

No adult caught it here and DS had them for 2 years, then DD for a few months too. Never took any specific precautions not to catch it myself and I was fine, so hopefully it reassures you. DD caught them when DS' were in the weepy phase (last phase before they disappear) so maybe be more vigilant during that time, otherwise you'll be grand!

Highly recommend Molludab, worked on DD straightaway, after waiting years for them to go on DS.

Echobelly · 04/08/2026 16:23

I caught it off DS when he was tiny. Everything I read suggested everyone in the house would get it and it would take months to get rid of and we'd have to be boil washing things forever to keep on top of it but Molludab sorted us both out quite quickly and no one else caught it, without me having to constantly boil wash towels etc.

VividDeer · 04/08/2026 16:28

Between my kids there has been 3 years of it. I've not caught it.
