Experiences of circumcision child with local anaesthetic

Child aged 6 needs to be circumcised due to medical reasons is on nhs waiting list however I’m thinking about going private due to the pain he is in. The clinic I have found doesn’t put child to sleep and uses local anesthetic. My child has asd/adhd and has a fear of needles due to previous blood tests so I’m worried about how this will go. Has anyone had any experience of this please and how did it go?

I can't imagine a child that age, with those characteristics, having a hope of staying still for a scary looking painful procedure under local.

What?! No, don't do this to a young boy with asd/adhd and a needle phobia - that's awful.

Well given that blood tests aren't really painful but local anaesthetic absolutely is, I wouldn't do this.

No local anesthetic is a terrible idea its painful and its hard enough for an adult to stay completely still during medical procedures let alone a 6 year old with asd and adhd

Definitely not. It could be an extremely traumatic experience, not to mention dangerous if child starts moving at the wrong time.

I would be looking for another clinic. The whole thing is a bad idea, local and him staying still, being awake for the experience, hearing the doctors talking. No. Definitely look into another place to get it done.

Gas induction general anesthetic in hospital is the best way to go. Will be less traumatic.

Absolutely not. Most circumcisions in my trust are done with general anaesthetic and that’s adult men who would sit still and have the capacity to understand what’s going on.

Gas induction isn’t always the best or safest way. Depends very much on the child/their medical history.

Agreed. Though with some kids can be the least bad way. But I really can't see local working in this situation. I suspect they'd never be able to start the procedure, but the far worse possibility is moving at the wrong moment, meaning damage and haemorrhage.

Have you explained your concerns? It may be they can be flexible and use general albeit it may cost more. In fact being private I’d be surprised if they won’t offer general if you want.
