Hi, wondering if anyone has had a similar situation or could offer some advise cos I’m of course going out my mind now.

noticed my 2 year old daughter has lump below her ear in neck.
went to doctors today who checked her over and advised she’s not to concerned as the lump is small and does move around.
is going to referred her for an ultrasound just to check.

she was going to talk to her supervisor, has just called back and asked if I can come back Tuesday to check all the lymph nodes under arms and check stomach.

anyone experienced anything similar??

My DS had this. It was gone by the time he started school.

Yes my daughter had a lump in her neck. Didn't think too much of it until it started swelling and getting infected regularly. An ultrasound diagnosed it as a branchial cleft cyst

Yep, both my DC have had this. It was a swollen lymph node following on from an infection / bug. The GPs checked my children out to see if there were any other palpable lymph nodes (my DS always had visible ones as he was so lean / not enough fat to cover them). The nodes did go down after a few weeks, but my DC only ever had blood tests to check to make sure all was OK, never an US

Likey to be a swollen lymph node. My ds had one for ages ,it settles eventually. Worth mentioning it to the HV.

DD has had a lump in her neck since she was about 6wks old. Went private as GP wasn’t concerned, they done an ultrasound it was a swollen lymph node but because it was under 2cm (I think) it was fine, went back 6m later still the same size and then a year after that had another ultrasound still roughly the same size. It’s very common for children’s lymph nodes to stay raised after a cold or the like apparently

Sounds like you saw someone quite junior, which is fine as every experienced doc was junior once and needs to learn. The plan has changed because their supervisor has given them more guidance, not because they are v worried about your dc.
The swelling is in a v typical location for a 'reactive' lymph node. The supervisor wants them to check for other lymph nodes in arm pits/ groin and and swelling if liver and spleen. If this is all fine and your dc is otherwise well, then don't be surprised if they then say that she won't be getting a scan after all. They may well say just to keep an eye on it.

They said it was just a swollen lymph node.

lordbaddingham · 03/07/2026 20:35

It will be a lymph node. My son has two swollen but everything okay apparently.

Thank you everyone. I couldn’t wait or relax so ended up taking her to a&e Friday morning. Advised it just a fatty tissue and not to be concerned!!

doctor said wait for ultrasound through doctors but his not worried about it.

That wasn't an accident or an emergency,I can't believe you went to A and E. I'm glad all is ok though.
