Toddler suddenly very tired and sleeping in the day, GP on Monday?

My almost 3 year old hasn’t napped during the day in well over a year.
Suddenly the last 1-2 weeks they are complaining of being tired, falling sleeping in the car then sleeping for over 2 hours during the day (not every day) and when she is asleep is really sweaty and flushed. She usually loves running a round the park but now refusing to walk even short distances insisting on taking the buggy.
Appetite seems a bit reduced but is still eating and drinking.
She is fair so already pale but I’ve noticed her eyelids and under eyes are a slight purple colour.

I just have this horrible gut feeling something is wrong, if the same by Monday I will book a GP appointment but does this just sound like typical toddler maybe viral infection and I need to chill out.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Could it be the heat? However, worth checking out if you gut is telling you something is wrong.

How’s she sleeping at night? Is the daytime nap in addition to her normal sleep?

It could be so many things - heat? Virus? Growth spurt? - but if you’re worried, I’d honestly get her checked out. She’s so little and she doesn’t have anyone else to advocate for her, and the GP would know of stuff to question/investigate that you might not have thought of.

Is she thirsty, losing weight or peeing a lot? Make sure you know the signs of Type 1 diabetes and get her blood sugar checked ASAP www.nhs.uk/conditions/type-1-diabetes/symptoms/

I would probably go to urgent treatment if you have one locally.
Or at the very least call 111

Mumoftwo2022 · 21/06/2026 21:53

I would get a gp appointment tomorrow to get her checked over as you have said it’s gone on for 1-2 weeks just to check it is just a virus. Any other symptoms like temperature, cold symptoms?

PurpleLovecats · 21/06/2026 21:54

I’d get her checked tomorrow.

I would be getting her checked out by the GP too. I hope all is well.
