Had baby 2 weeks ago she had the newborn MOT check at hospital they found clicky hips and a dimple she’s been referred for the hips but I was given no information about her dimple and worried it was all so rushed do you think this looks like a normal spine dimple ? None of my other kids have this or do I or her dad. thanks

My almost 2 year old has one.
Never been an issue, was noted on his birth notes but not explained. At another check the nurse was surprised nothing was said and told me its nothing to worry about but need to take extra care keeping it clean to avoid infections as in the nappy area. His is low enough that if you imagined a builders bum the line has a kink in it if that makes any sense.
I believe they'd only worry if you can't see the end/closure of the hole or there's hair.

Pretty sure that they would refer you if there was any concerns. One of mine had a very deep dimple and had to have an MRI to check the spine was basically sealed at the bottom. If you’re worried, ask your midwife or health visitor if it needs further checks.

I’ve got one! Am 50 now

A sacral dimple. One of mine had one. I was told it was fine as it was sealed. Had forgotten all about that until now.

Are you worried about neural tube defects? If you are concerned you can ask your GP or maybe health visitor for reassurance.

Both my son and daughter have a sacral dimple (as do I). The hospital actually missed my son's and it was flagged at the 6 week check so he was referred to a paediatric consultant for checks. We picked up on our daughter's before leaving hospital. Both are fine. As a PP said, it's unlikely a concern if you can see the bottom of it but definitely worth getting checked over if it's not been checked already.
