Possibly impetigo? It's worth calling out of hours.

Can't quite tell from the image, but I automatically thought "Impetigo" when you said scabbing. getting worse and young child.

A pharmacist should be able to prescribe a creme - here's the NHS link

Impetigo is very contagious so keep your little one away from other children and anyone with reduced immunity. It usually clears up quickly 2 with treatment.

Impetigo

Find out about impetigo, a contagious skin infection that's not usually serious. Read about the symptoms, when to get medical help, treatments and prevention.

I was thinking impetigo too, my DD had it and it looked a lot like this.
It will need an antibiotic cream to treat it. You could try a pharmacist but not sure if they will prescribe for a baby - might be better trying to get out of hours GP appointment

I’d ring 111 and they’ll probably get you an out of hours GP appointment.

OtterMummy2024 · 24/01/2026 14:29

If it's rapidly spreading you need to get her seen. It can't wait till Monday, on the off chance it's something serious.

These things always happen at the weekend don't they?!

MuteDS · 24/01/2026 18:47

Out of house gp send us to A&E because he wasn’t sure too and was concerned how quickly is spreading. My poor baby have head mouth feet virus plus impetigo and they gave her flucoxacillin 4 times a day !

Ah poor thing, my DD had impetigo and Hand foot & mouth around the same time too - new nursery germs !

OtterMummy2024 · 24/01/2026 19:30

Poor little mite. She should feel better soon!

Pasta4Dinner · 24/01/2026 19:56

Poor thing. It can be sore to eat with HFM so ice lollies can be good.

DPotter · 24/01/2026 22:47

Poor little thing - and you too!

MuteDS · 25/01/2026 18:44

F hate this crap all my kids when they have antibiotics just get digestive distress
she’s vomiting since starting antibiotics
we were asked to stop it and only use cream and take her Monday to reasses
