My daughter is 5 1/2. She has two slightly wobbly teeth. A couple of days ago she said her mouth hurt a little bit. I looked inside and couldn’t see any sores and her gums don’t look red. Today she came back from her dad’s feeling really unwell and crying and saying it hurt when she ate or drunk. I gave her calpol and then she ate and drank everything in sight and was totally fine from 3-8pm I gave her some ibruprofen at bedtime but she has just woken up in pain again, so I’ve given another dose of Calpol. Could this mouth pain be because of the wobbly teeth? Is this a thing?

One of mine was like this as a first sign of hand, foot and mouth. Sores in mouth and spots on hands and feet appeared a little later (maybe the next day). We knew something wasn’t right as he was refusing food and putting his hand in his mouth (he was about 12 months at the time).

Yes hand foot & mouth was my first thought.

Or it could just be be a standard sore throat.

Keep up with nurofen and calpol and see how it develops

Another possibility is the first episode of cold sores can be very painful and affect the mouth and throat.

She has no signs of sores anywhere in her mouth. When she says it hurts she points to inside cheeks and gums near her wobbly teeth!

Avoid anything acidic like citrus fruits and stick with more soothing things like yogurt until it settles down in case it is the beginnings of HFM.
