Are ear infections and diarrhoea connected?

My daughter has got an ear infection and has been suffering from really loose pretty much liquid poo along side it.

Is this normal? The diarrhoea isn’t constant, she isn’t going any more than normal. She usually goes once a day it’s just that when she does go there is so much and it’s all liquid!

Is she on antibiotics for the ear infection?

Is she on antibiotics for the ear infection?

She hasn’t started them yet, only just been diagnosed

I think it's more likely to be an unfortunate coincidence of two bugs.

Google reckons if the ear infection is viral, that might also be causing diarrhoea, but I struggle to think of a specific virus that has those two symptoms but nothing else!

Have you given her Calpol or Nurofen? I always find that those (especially Nurofen) can upset their stomachs.
