How many antibiotics is too many antibiotics

My 5 and a half year old has constant ear and throat infections - he has 1 to 2 courses a month in the winter months as most colds ( which seem Constant through winter ) end up with an infection. His ent consultant has put the paperwork together for him to have a tonsillectomy but the waiting list is huge . I’m so worried about the continual antibiotic use but the gps just say if he needs them there’s very little can be done . Has anyone experienced this with their kids ?

This was my son at 5 years old and I was worrying about the same. He’s now 7 and had tonsils removed and been antibiotic free for a year. He did start growing out of it around 5 and a half and he got it less.
I’ve since learnt he has a dust mite allergy and this could’ve been the cause of the large tonsils. Other things that helped and I wish I’d know then.

vitamins! As in really good quality vitamins - mighty kids are a good one but expensive.

oral probiotics - these contain a step specific strain that’s different to normal probiotics. They dissolve in their mouth and help with defence against tonsillitis.

I follow someone called the gut health doctor on Instagram and she had a line of probiotics which should be taken during antibiotics. I think they’re called smart strains. She talks about the dose for children in one of her videos.

I hope some of that might be helpful
