Is there calcium in his vitamin tablet?

Is the milk on his cereal his only source of Calcium currently?

He needs a minimum of 550 mg of calcium per day and 100 ml of full fat cow’s milk has 100 mg, so he would need to he getting calcium from other sources as well.

Calcium

How much calcium do different groups of people need and what foods and drinks are rich in calcium?

What’s his diet like? If he doesn’t like cheese will he eat other things with calcium in them like custard, rice pudding, whole yoghurt, hot chocolate made with full fat milk, scampi in breadcrumbs, and broccoli?

Lots of sliced white bread are fortified with calcium as is Ready Brek.

I would go to the GP though avd get him checked.

cestlavielife · 26/10/2025 21:04

Measure him properly
Then again in 3 months
If he really not growing at all and has dropped centiles in past 12 months then take to gp. (Dont cimpare with baby newborn but in pas year ir so )
Coeliac can stop growth

cestlavielife · 26/10/2025 21:05

He should be growing 5 to 7 cm per year

Nat12N · 26/10/2025 21:11

Thank you he hasn't grown much in the last 8 months
And his shoe size is still the same.
I bought the calcium supplements x and will take him to see his GP xxx

Potentially coeliac disease. Very first symptom for my son (who is now diagnosed) was that his weight did not go up nor shoe size for a full year aged 9. From there more symptoms eventually began to show over the course of 6 months.

If you have your Red Book, take it with you when you see the GP and ask them to weigh and measure him and record it in his Red Book. This will give a baseline which will be useful of he’s referred to Paediatrics Flowers

cestlavielife · 27/10/2025 08:10

Ask for coeliac blood test (any coeliac or diabetes or other autoimmune in wider family?) and routine blood tests. Ask for referral to growth clinic.

Don’t feed him this it’s all processed and white bread is not good for you.

cestlavielife · 27/10/2025 15:18

Take a food diary with you you can record all food intake from say last weds to tuesday .

Most of the things I mentioned are in the article from the BDA on calcium.

My daughter's didn't grow for years and I blamed it on her ridiculous insistence on only eating plain carbs and apples for a couple of years. She is fine now as an adult and eats a great varied diet.
