Kind of.

My LO had a sickness bug Easter weekend, and since then starting coughing / regurgitating food.

Turns out it is reflux, (probably triggered by the bug) so we’re on anti-reflux meds until it calms down

Thank you for reply. How old is your child and what kind anti reflux med he is on and did he have reflux as a baby ?

She’s 21 months but no reflux as a baby at all, only started after the sickness bug.

It’s omeprazole and we’re trialing 3 months on it hoping to taper down xx

Yes same thing same case as my child
no history, did the doc say it can resolve or chronic ?

@Realistrealm were having a barium swallow next week to see if there’s anything structural going on, but otherwise the doctor is hopeful that a few months of calming everything down with the meds will hopefully resolve it

Realistrealm · 25/09/2025 20:57

Thank you very helpful. His consultant just replied to me. He asked to remove diary and should resolve because he had allergy background and he said maybe the bug triggered back allergy or caused new allergy

@Realistrealm we have allergies too and the bug seems to have triggered a fish allergy she didn’t have before.

We’ve been told be might be able to retry as it might be temporary but it’s just a guessing game reallly!

Hope you get it sorted too, it’s awful!

Reflux triggered regurgitation with my daughter. She had a reflux flare up at 3 but could be bringing up and swallowing fluids for hours after drinking them. The paediatrician said the first few times will have been the reflux but then her stomach continued to bring it up because it had gotten used to it. Once we sorted out her reflux meds it stopped.

She has had it since birth but it goes in and out of being controlled by meds. We had a particularly bad relapse at 3 which took 6 months to get back under control. We never figured out what triggered that one but lots of things can trigger it. Usually things like growth spurts, teething, coughs and colds, stomach bugs and food allergies.

My daughter did after a stomach bug, and it had actually triggered coeliac disease

woooow did the regurgitation go away eventually when the bug gone and celiac was diagnosed?
