Mouth ulcers - September back to school illness?

Hello, dc (9), has recurring crops of mouth ulcers - in the past these came with fevers. He's had several tests for these - nutritional deficiencies, gastro, coeliac, crohn's etc. We saw leading gastro people who have been clear this isn't a stomach issue. He had low iron but responded to prescription iron and recent re-test shows it's stayed within normal range.

Second week back at school and he's had vomiting, a fever with mouth ulcers and sore throat again with very stinky breath and flatulence. He didn't have a runny nose or cough. It lasted 3 days then he was back to normal self. I've had a theory that it is something that happens to him when he is having a growth spurt since I've noticed it coincides with a change in height.

Does anyone's kids get mouth ulcers when they have an infection? I know that being 'run down' is listed as a reason for mouth ulcers but dc gets a lot of sleep and doesn't have any notable stress!

My son got them because he mouth breathes a lot. He has a dust mite allergy and has since had tonsils removed and breathing is now a bit better.

How many times was he screened for coeliacs disease via blood? These are notorious for false negatives. My son was diagnosed last year and it took two tests to be sure, the first test said he was negative for the gene! The second one said he was positive for the gene 🙄 my adult niece had the same thing, first test negative, symptoms continued, got a second opinion, second blood test positive.

I agree with the pp's comment about retesting for Coeliac.
