3 year old vomiting but fine in himself apart from not eating

My almost 3 year old has lost his appetite the past few days and he normally gets like this when he comes down with something, and I was right, yesterday afternoon he was sick, only very little as he hasn’t eaten properly for 2 days, and was sick again this morning (again it was just like bile due to not eating). But the strange thing is, other than looking a little bit pale and napping in the day which he never does, he is absolutely fine in himself! Still playing, still doing his usual daily activities, has even gone out with Dad this morning after asking to go with him.

He is my first born, but I have never dealt with vomiting before other than from when he was a baby. Any ideas what this could be? I remember being sick lots as a child but was very ill and bed bound, it’s just crazy he is still running around being his usual crazy self!

My 15 days old was in hospital for a few days and my son come to visit so he has definitely caught something from the hospital.

They do worry you at that age. Try to make sure he's sipping some water regularly - I'm at the other end of this with my MIL, she's supposed to sip approx every 15 minutes - and if he keeps that down give him bigger drinks. You could see if he wants something bland like bread, not with loads of butter on though. Maybe buy some that's tastier on its own like tiger bread or something like that. It's great that he's feeling ok in himself, with a bit of extra rest I'm sure he'll be ok in a few days.

@deadpan honestly the anxiety of when they get ill is crazy! My son has had croup, bronchitis, endless colds from nursery, my newborn has just had mastitis and infection and now this 🤦‍♀️ it’s just never ending and always thinking the worst.

He is still drinking which is really good! He kept asking for water as well so I’m glad he is staying hydrated. Just so strange he is vomiting but still well enough to go out with Dad and run around playing and being his usual sit and crazy self!

Gosh you really have been through it!! In my experience they don't really stop doing what they normally do unless they just can't physically do it anymore. I'm afraid I was a softy and put them infront of the TV every now and then so they had an enforced rest. But if he feels like doing things with his dad then he must be ok-ish. I think there are electrolyte drinks especially for kids, obviously it depends on how long he hasn't eaten for and how sick he's been.

My 3.5 year old is a bit like this (doesn’t really acknowledge she’s ill). He just has a wee bug and will likely be ok in a few days. Good that he’s drinking - if he’s struggling to keep fluids down you can give him dioralyte. Hope he feels better soon.

I wouldn’t worry too much if he’s drinking plenty and passing urine just offer him a little of things he likes. We often give sugary squash (add the sugar) keeps blood sugar up and gives them a bit of energy whilst unwell - usually because dioralyte is foul and kids never would take it I’m sure he’ll be on the mend soon you sound like you’ve been through the mill
