Several fairly minor health conditions

12 year old already has a few different health conditions requiring more than 20 operations in total but are not a huge thing individually. Today he's been diagnosed with something new which will hopefully mean one operation but with a risk of it reoccurring, risk of nerve damage etc. I'm just getting eye rolls from the inlaws who i unfortunately had to ask for help. Along with sighs, head shakes and "I told you it wouldn't be anything bad". 12 year old is naturally putting me to shame being his usual calm self and i am just tired and fed up.

I'd be asking the doctor why he has so many health conditions that need surgery. That's a lot. Anything underlying? Is managing the smaller conditions like treating the symptoms rather than the underlying cause?

Thank you. Some of them are linked, so because he has condition A (4 operations) he is more likely to get condition B (2 operations). Then he got condition C which is a complication from the treatment of condition B (1 operation so far, 50% chance of needing more). Condition D was they think caused by him being prem and that was all the other operations, although that one has been stable for 7 years now thank goodness. Condition E is a new one but they are not sure if it's a one operation and fixed thing or if it will keep coming back. He had genetics tests years ago and they found something but they aren't sure if that's the cause of all his problems or just some of them.
