Is this nail going to fall off? Picture included

DD (8) has always been a nail biter. Last week it felt like I was telling her to take her thumb out of her mouth every 5 minutes so I had a closer look and was shocked. She was biting at bottom of the nail. There was a hole in the base of her nail and the skin was inflamed. I put a plaster over it to stop her going at it but the plasters keep falling off and she still keeps at it. It looks so bad and I’m wondering if she’ll lose the nail.

I don’t think a doctor would be able to do anything?

Mine looked similar after I caught it, the top fell off with a new nail underneath.

I has exactly the same as a child and now have a club nail. I wish my parents had found a way to stop me picking and biting before I caused the damage as I’m quite self conscious about it now. I would go to the go and ask for fungal nail test and treat and do as much as you can to stop the biting.
